In the Garden by Katrina Phillips

fill my shoes with flowers

bury me upside down

my hair

will sprout roots

my skin

will split

cocoon

*

don’t forget to water me

*

through the earth

i will

crawl

eyes sealed shut

swan dive

in the mud

slowly

*

don’t forget to weed me

*

learn the language

of the slimy things

-they will tell you

of my travels-

postcards written

on blades

of grass

*

don’t forget to feed me

*

upon my return

cresting the soil

pale and raw

a stem a leaf a piece

of me

will need you

*

don’t forget to pick me
